Required documents

International Christian University (ICU) requires prospective students to submit several documents. One of the required documents is a personal statement (400-500 words) and a short essay (400-500 words). The personal statement is about their motivation for studying at ICU and their career plans. For the essay, the students choose a topic from a given list. Previous topics were:

• Discuss a current issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
• Describe a work of art (painting, literature, music, etc.), a historical episode, or a scientific achievement that has impressed you and explain how it has affected your outlook on life.
• Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.
• A topic of your choice.

Additionally, if the student’s previous education system was one in which the first language is NOT English, then they are required to submit a certificate to prove their English proficiency. Acceptable types of certification are TOEFL iBT or IELTS.
