Required documents

Waseda University School of International Liberal Studies requires prospective students to submit several documents. One of the required documents is a written essay of about 600 words. Depending on the year, the content may differ. For example, the requirement for 2019 was “Identify a significant international event which took place in the last year and explain why you think it was important.”

Furthermore, students who receive a conditional offer are required to take an interview test. In general, they will be asked about their applications, their motivation for applying and their future goals.

Additionally, if the student’s previous education system was one in which the first language is NOT English, then they are required to submit a certificate to prove their English proficiency. Acceptable types of certification are TOEFL iBT, TOEIC L&R, IELTS (Academic), GEPT (General English Proficiency Test) and EIKEN (Test in Practical English Proficiency).

Additional information for domestic students

For domestic students, there is a written examination called “Critical Writing”, which typically involves reading over 500 words about various topics and answering multiple-choice and written answer questions in English.
