入学試験概要
こちらのページでは、上智大学の英語学位プログラム・SPSF（Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures）について紹介します。
SPSF（Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures）とは？
上智大学は2020年度の秋学期に、SPSFという英語学位プログラムを開設しました。他大学の平均的な英語学位プログラムとは異なり、SPSFの受験生は出願時に学部・学科を選択し、志望学部・学科に関する専門分野に加えて「Sustainable Futures」（同大学HPより）をテーマとする科目を英語で学びます。
SPSFが開設されているのは、以下の6つの学科となります。
・経済学部

・総合グローバル学部
＜総合グローバル学科＞
・総合人間科学部
＜教育学科／社会学科＞
・文学部
＜新聞学科＞
出願の時期について
SPSFの入学時期は9月のみで、4月入学は行われていません。
出願期間は1年度につき2回あり、第1回（First application）が11月中旬から12月上旬、第2回（Second application）が翌3月中旬から4月上旬です。第1回の結果発表は翌年の2月、第2回は同年の6月となることがほとんどです。
出願に必要な書類について
提出書類のうち、以下のものは特に入念な準備を行う必要があります。
志望理由書（500語ほど）
SPSFおよび選択した学部学科で学びたい理由について説明する、英文の志望理由書を作成します。学部学科によって志望理由書内で触れるテーマに若干の差異があり、また500語というかなり限られたスペースで志望理由を説明しなくてはいけないことをしっかりと踏まえましょう。
Standardized Test
以下の最低1つを提出する必要があります。
・国際バカロレアディプロマ（IB Diploma）
・SAT*
*学部学科によってスコアが必要なセクションが異なります。注意してください。
・ACT
・GCE Advanced Level（Three subjects）
どのテストにおいても、大学側から指定要件が設けられています。最新の情報は、大学HPおよびSPSFの募集要項をご自身でご確認ください。
英語テストのスコア
以下の英語能力試験のスコアを1種類、提出する必要があります。
・TOEFL iBT
・IELTS Academic Module
SPSFの選考プロセスにおいては、面接や筆記試験は実施されません。全ての審査は提出書類のみに基づいて行われます。
出願対策にあたって注意すべきこと
評定点の確保や英語資格試験のスコアアップは独りでも可能ですが、書類審査を担当する大学教員を唸らせる志望理由書を独りで作成するのは難しいですよね。SPSFの志望理由書は他の英語学位プログラムのそれと比較しても字数制限が厳しいため、より慎重・丁寧な準備が必要不可欠です。
特に志望理由書においては、以下の要素を読み手にしっかりと伝える必要があります。
・SPSFで学びたい！という強い熱意
・自分がSPSFの学生に相応しい理由
・SPSFが自分のキャリアにとって不可欠である根拠
上述の通り面接や筆記試験は選考プロセスにないため、志望理由書の内容が説得力に欠けるものだと判断されてしまうと、合格できる確率は大変に低くなってしまいます。

This page introduces SPSF (Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures), an English-language degree program in the Department of Journalism, Education, Sociology, Economics, Management, and Global Studies.
What is SPSF (Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures)?
In the fall semester of 2020, Sophia University established an English degree program called SPSF. Unlike typical English degree programs at other universities, applicants to SPSF select their desired faculty and department at the time of application and study subjects related to their chosen department as well as “Sustainable Futures” in English.
SPSF is available in the following six faculties/departments:
・Journalism
・Education
・Sociology
・Economics
・Management
・Global Studies
Application Period
SPSF only admits students in September, and does not have an April enrollment.
There are two application periods per academic year: the first application period stretches from mid-November to early December, and the second application period stretches from mid-March to early April. The results of the first application are typically announced in February of the following year, while the second application results are announced in June of the same year.
Required Documents for Application
Among the required documents, the following are crucial to all students:
Essay (approximately 500 words)
A statement of purpose in English explaining the reasons for applying to SPSF and the chosen department. The themes addressed in the statement of purpose may vary slightly depending on the faculty/department chosen, and applicants must articulate their reasons within the limited space of 500 words.
Standardized Test
Applicants must submit at least one of the following:
・International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB Diploma)
・SAT
・ACT
・GCE Advanced Level (Three subjects)

English Proficiency Test Score
Applicants must submit scores from one of the following English proficiency tests:

The selection process for SPSF does not include interviews or written exams. All evaluations are based solely on submitted documents.
Important Considerations for Application Preparation
While it’s possible to improve grades and English proficiency test scores on your own, creating a compelling essay that impresses university faculty members can be challenging. Given the stringent word limit for SPSF’s statement of purpose compared to other English degree programs, meticulous preparation is essential.
In particular, the statement of purpose should effectively convey the following to the reader:
・Strong enthusiasm for studying at SPSF
・Reasons why the applicant is suitable for SPSF
・Justification for why SPSF is essential for the applicant’s career
As interviews and written exams are not part of the SPSF selection process, if the content of the statement of purpose lacks persuasiveness, the chances of acceptance become significantly lower.
