入学試験概要
こちらのページでは、早稲田大学文化構想学部の英語学位プログラム・JCulP（Global Studies in Japanese Culture Program 国際日本文化論プログラム）について紹介します
JCulP（国際日本文化論プログラム）とは？
早稲田大学文化構想学部では、日本の文化について世界に発信できる人材の育成を目的とした英語学位プログラム（English Degree Program/EDP）を提供しています。JCulPでは英語が共通言語として用いられ、日本の学校で教育を受けた学生15名（日本学生 Japanese Students）と、海外の教育を受けた学生15名（海外学生 Overseas Students, OS）が机を並べます。
出願の時期について
日本学生は4月入学を原則とし、入学前年の9月上旬に書類審査が行われ、書類審査を通過した受験生のみが、12月上旬の面接試験を受けられます。合格発表は12月下旬です。
海外学生は9月入学が原則で、入学年の1-2月に書類審査が行われます。面接試験が必要と大学が判断した志願者は、大学が指定する日程で面接試験を受けます。合格発表は4月下旬です。
出願に必要な書類について
提出書類のうち、以下のものは日本学生・海外学生のいずれにおいても、特に入念な準備を行う必要があります。
志望理由書（800語ほど）
JCulPを志望する理由などを述べる、英語での志望理由書作成が必須となります。2024年度は、以下のトピックについて触れる内容のものが求められました。
・What are you particularly interested in studying at JCulP?（JCulPで特に学びたいことは何か？）
・What makes you a suitable unique candidate for the program?（貴方がJCulPの学生にふさわしい理由は？）
Academic Honors
中学卒業以降あるいは中等教育学校前期課程の修了後の活動のうち、学業における表彰歴や、学芸・文芸領域における活動について提出します。
Academic Honorsの記入は必須ではありませんが、最低でも1つは提出することが大学から強く推薦されています。
英語テストのスコア
以下の英語能力試験のスコアを1種類、提出する必要があります。
・実用英語技能検定（英検）
・TOEFL iBT
・IELTS Academic Module
・TEAP（CBT含む）
・GTEC CBT
・ケンブリッジ英語検定
いずれの試験においても所定の基準点を超過している必要があります。基準点は変動する可能性があるため、最新の基準点については、大学が公開している入試要項などをご確認ください。
書類の準備に加えて、面接試験の準備も必要です。特に日本学生の選考においては面接試験が必須となっており、英語で面接が行われるため、英語でのコミュニケーション能力のみならず、自分の志望理由や日本文化についての考察・意見を英語で伝えられる能力が求められます。
出願対策にあたって注意すべきこと
評定の確保や英語資格試験のスコアアップは独りでも可能ですが、書類審査・面接試験を担当する大学教員を唸らせる志望理由書を独りで作成するのは難しいですよね。
志望理由書や面接においては、以下の要素を読み手にしっかりと伝える必要があります。
・JCulPで学びたい！という強い熱意
・自分がJCulPの学生に相応しい理由
・JCulPが自分のキャリアにとって不可欠である根拠
面接では上記以外の要素やトピックについて尋ねられる可能性もあるため、広く、深い面接準備が必要です。

WASEDA JCulP
This page introduces JCulP (Global Studies in Japanese Cultures Program), an English-language degree program in the School of Culture, Media and Society at Waseda University.
What is Waseda JCulP, and What Are the Benefits of the Program?
In the School of Culture, Media and Society at Waseda University, an English degree program (EDP) is offered with the aim of fostering individuals capable of disseminating Japanese culture to the world. In the JCulP, English is used as the common language, with 15 Japanese students (dubbed as Japanese Students, JS) who have received education in Japanese schools and 15 overseas students (dubbed as Overseas Students, OS) who have received education abroad studying together.
When Can I Apply for the Program?
Japanese Students enroll in April, with document screening conducted in early September of the preceding year. Only applicants who pass the document screening are eligible to take the interview exam in early December. The announcement of successful candidates is made in late December.
On the other hand, Overseas Students enroll in September, with document screening taking place between January and February of the enrollment year. Applicants deemed necessary to undergo an interview exam will do so on dates specified by the university. The announcement of successful candidates is made in late April.
What Do I Need to Prepare for My Application? Is There an Interview or Written Test?
Among the required documents, there are some that both Japanese and overseas students need to prepare meticulously:
Statement of Purpose (Approximately 800 words):
A statement of purpose written in English is required, explaining reasons for applying to JCulP. For the 2024 academic year, applicants were required to touch on the following topics:
・What are you particularly interested in studying at JCulP?
・What makes you a suitable unique candidate for the program?
Academic Honors:
Records of academic achievements or activities in the fields of arts and literature since junior high school graduation or completion of the first half of secondary education program are to be submitted.
While filling in Academic Honors is not mandatory, the university strongly recommends submitting at least one.
English Proficiency Test Score:
A score from one of the following English proficiency tests must be submitted:
・Eiken
・TOEFL iBT
・IELTS Academic Module
・TEAP (including CBT)
・GTEC CBT
・Cambridge English Qualification
It is necessary to exceed the specified passing score for any of these exams. As the passing scores may vary, please refer to the latest admissions guidelines provided by the university for the current criteria.
In addition to preparing these documents, preparation for the interview exam is also necessary. Particularly for Japanese Student applicants, the interview exam is mandatory, so it is imperative that you possess the ability to convey one’s reasons for applying and view on Japanese culture in English.
What Do I Need to Be Cautious About?
While it’s possible to secure grades and improve English proficiency test scores independently, crafting a compelling statement of purpose that impresses the university faculty members responsible for document screening and interview evaluations can be challenging to do alone.
In both the statement of purpose and the interview, it’s essential to convey the following elements effectively to the reader:
・A strong passion for studying at JCulP.
・Reasons why you are a suitable candidate for JCulP.
・Evidence demonstrating why JCulP is indispensable for your career.
Since interviews may involve questions about elements beyond these, comprehensive interview preparation is necessary.
What Can We (洋々/Youyou) Do for You?
